About This Package
Sonmarg — the "Meadow of Gold" — sits at 2,740 metres on the historic Srinagar-Leh highway, serving as the gateway to Ladakh and one of Kashmir's most spectacular alpine destinations. This four-day adventure package immerses you in Sonmarg's raw, untouched beauty — from the face of the Thajiwas Glacier at 3,300 metres to the dramatic valleys surrounding the Zoji La pass (3,528m), the ancient trade route that once connected Kashmir to Central Asia and beyond.
The centrepiece of this trip is the Thajiwas Glacier trek — a full day journey of approximately 7 kilometres each way through meadows of gold that give Sonmarg its name. The trail winds through wildflower carpets, birch forests, and past grazing horses before reaching the pristine glacier face, a towering sheet of ice surrounded by snow-capped peaks. You'll also explore the Baltal Valley — the alternate base camp for the Amarnath Yatra — a dramatic landscape of 4,000-metre peaks, river crossings, and alpine meadows that few tourists ever see.
This package is designed for trekkers, nature photographers, and adventure seekers who want more than sightseeing. Camp under clear Himalayan skies with a roaring bonfire, trek along the Sindh River spotting marmots and wildflowers, try your hand at trout fishing, and wake to some of the most spectacular sunrises in all of Kashmir. With an experienced trek guide, quality camping equipment, and all meals included, this is the perfect way to experience the adventurous side of Kashmir.

In the afternoon, take an acclimatization walk along the Sindh River — spot wildflowers and marmots in the meadows as you adjust to the altitude. End the day with an evening bonfire and hot cups of Kashmiri kahwa under a canopy of stars. Overnight in Sonmarg.
Day 2 — Thajiwas Glacier Trek
Full day Thajiwas Glacier trek — approximately 7km each way. Start early morning through the meadows of gold — wildflowers, birch trees, and grazing horses line the trail. Reach the glacier face at 3,300m — a pristine sheet of ice surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Enjoy photography and snowball fights at the glacier edge. Pack lunch is served en route. Return by evening to camp for a bonfire night under the starlit Himalayan sky. Overnight in Sonmarg.
Day 3 — Baltal Valley Exploration
Drive to Baltal (15km) — the alternate Amarnath Yatra base camp set in a dramatic valley surrounded by peaks exceeding 4,000 metres. Explore easy river crossing trails and meadow walks through this remote and breathtaking landscape. Afternoon at leisure — try fishing in the Sindh River for trout, practise nature photography, or simply relax with mountain views stretching to the horizon. Overnight in Sonmarg.
Day 4 — Sunrise & Departure
Rise early for a nature walk and sunrise photography — Sonmarg dawn is spectacular with golden light hitting the peaks, painting them in shades of amber and rose. After breakfast, pack up and transfer to Srinagar airport (approximately 3 hours). Depart with memories of glaciers, meadows, and mountain skies that will stay with you long after you leave the valley.
Best Time to Visit
May–June is ideal — the glacier is accessible, wildflowers are in full bloom, and temperatures range from a comfortable 10-20°C during the day. July–August brings lush green landscapes but occasional rain, so waterproof gear is advisable. September–October offers the clearest skies and crisp mountain air, perfect for photography and trekking. November–April the road to Sonmarg may be snow-blocked and is only recommended for experienced winter trekkers with proper equipment.
